Palliative Care Dumfries & Galloway

Support is available for patients and families of palliative patients both locally and through a wealth of online resources.

We have collated a multitude of resources for patients and relatives on the Public Section of this website, including resources for children and young people. You can direct patients to it : http://palliative-care.dghscp.co.uk/public/home/

There is also information at the bottom of this page on supporting patients of different faiths.

If patients wish to find face-to-face support locally:

Patients and relatives can be directed to the MacMillan centre based at the front door of DGRI or the cancer drop-in centre in Stranraer.

Community patients can be referred to their MacMillan nurse.

There is also the carer’s centre in Dumfries.

Marie Curie has an excellent website with a variety of details about what to expect at the end of life, and support networks for patients and loved ones.

If patients are struggling psychologically with a difficult diagnosis or specific symptoms such as breathlessness, a referral to psychology can be considered.
